Los Angeles - project: gallery is pleased to present "A Season in My Head,"
a solo exhibition for artist Drew Wood.

Wood has studied art history at both the University of Missouri - Columbia and UCLA, as an artist he considers himself self-taught; his art originates from within, flowing outward, rather than vice versa. Through a process of trial and error as well as experimentation and growth, he has developed a distinct presence as an abstract expressionist specializing in mixed media. Wood's trademark style utilizes a blend of acrylics, gels, and resins as well as a variety of encaustic materials and found objects. Viscerally drawn to somber textures and colors, the emotion wrung from the artist cannot help but be elicited in the viewer.

Wood's inspirations stretch beyond the traditional; the influence of writers such as Hunter S. Thompson, Charles Bukowski, Arthur Rimbaud, Friedrich Nietzsche, and William S. Burroughs, as well as lyrics from musical masterpieces such as The Beatle's Revolver and The White Album and The Velvet Underground's Loaded are apparent in his more recent works. In these, Wood has cultivated a brand of graffiti art, utilizing stream of consciousness lyrics to bring an additional layer of depth to his work.
